Genealogy Workshop: Tracing Our Roots
One of Olney Theatre Center’s community partners, the Sandy Spring Slave Museum, has developed extraordinary genealogy tools in its quest to document the rich heritage of African-American families in Montgomery County. Because Appropriate deals in genealogy and legacy, we’re proud to welcome Sandy Spring Slave Museum back to lead a genealogy workshop led by historian and researcher Natalie Thomas. This session offers practical tools and databases to help you become a genealogy detective, connect with your roots, and begin building your family tree. This hands-on activity pairs beautifully with watching Appropriate, a play that delves into family dynamics and generational legacies—making it a fun and meaningful way to engage with the themes of the show.
